Assistant Service Manager


The purpose of this position is to provide quality preventive maintenance service and all other major repairs to all scheduled vehicles, with safety as the number one goal.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain compliance of Departmental Goals and Objectives.

  • Assist to Maintain a profitable service operations within operating budget.

  • Monitor and assist in identifying performance of the service department using appropriate reports, tracking systems and surveys (CSI).

  • Coordinate, schedule and control technical training for technicians meeting OEM guidelines.

  • Coordinate and manage efficient and timely flow of repair orders to include closing repair orders.

  • Ensure compliance with OEM warranty and policy procedures.

  • Review/Edit all open repair orders retail, internal and warranty for accuracy in technician story, parts and labor applied.

  • Reconcile daily labor schedule and submit payroll information to the payroll department.

  • Direct proper handling of warranty failed parts including returned cores incoming and outgoing warranty material.

  • Direct daily parts department over the counter sale and return of failed warranty material including credits issued by warranty department.

  • Fill in for open positions within the service department as needed for foreman and service advisors maintaining shop supervision.

  • Deal directly with customers and/or vendors.

  • Assure customer satisfaction expectations are being addressed timely and as expected.

  • Maintain good service department housekeeping practice.

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Heavy lifting (50 lbs), twisting, bending, standing, use of both hands and arms. Moderate noise level exposure.

Education and Experience

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years’ service management experience in related industry or equivalent with heavy duty truck dealerships.

  • Excellent verbal and written skills.

  • Respectable comprehension of dealer business systems and computer skills.

  • Demonstrated capacity to effectively lead and motivate staff.

  • High problem solving ability.

  • Able and comfortable with multiple tasking.

  • Possess high level of overall technical knowledge of diesel trucks.
